Cancer Causing Foods to Avoid – Part II: Sugary Foods

While eating too much sugar hasn’t been shown to directly cause cancer on its own, it certainly doesn’t help your body stay healthy. The fact is that eating large quantities of sugar makes your body susceptible to getting cancer. Now, we all know people who can eat anything they want and still remain healthy. It isn’t quite fair, is it? However, no one knows how long they can keep it up before they run into problems like some of us.

So, if you don’t have cancer and are just interested in keeping the Big C as far away as possible, simply use moderation. Don’t over-indulge on a daily basis. Pop Tarts for breakfast and a tub of Ben and Jerry’s after dinner each day isn’t the best plan, for a variety of reasons.

Sugar and Cancer

Now, if you’re reading this and you have cancer, that’s a whole different kettle of fish. In that case, you really must completely cut sugar out of your diet. You need to rebuild your body’s defense system (aka the immune system) and sugar directly weakens it. In addition, those little white crystals are murder on your liver and pancreas.

These two organs, the liver and the pancreas, aren’t well understood by the average person. We all know the heart keeps the body going, but did you know that the liver removes toxins that accumulate in the body? We need to keep the liver healthy to survive.

While all your organs are vital to healthy living, when it comes to keeping cancer at bay, our research has shown that you must protect and preserve your pancreas. The pancreas is key to your body’s ability to break down food so that you can digest it. It also cleans up the dead cells in your body and keeps tumors from growing out of control.

Sodas

We all know the importance of drinking lots of water every day, but we think a lot of people substitute “liquid” for “water.” Drinking a can of soda is not the same as drinking a bottle of water when it comes to hydrating the body. Actually, it has the opposite effect. And while sports drinks are marketed as replenishing lost nutrients, they actually are loaded with sugar. Both sodas and sports drinks have about eight to ten teaspoons of sugar in each bottle or can. Considering the average American downs a couple of these drinks a day, every day, you see how there could be a problem!

Hidden Sugars

If you read the ingredients for many foods, you’ll see that sugar appears high on the list (ingredients are always listed in descending order by weight, so if sugar is the first item mentioned, there’s more of it than anything else. Scary isn’t it?). Start reading labels to protect yourself.

For instance, open your refrigerator and pull out a ketchup bottle. Even organic ketchup has 4 grams of sugar per serving size. Well that doesn’t sound too bad, right? Let’s look at the serving size. It’s a tablespoon. Since, 4.2 grams converts to about a teaspoon, that means that every time you squeeze ketchup on your burger, you’re eating a teaspoon of sugar. Really? Then pour another dollop onto your fries and that’s another teaspoon of the white stuff. Who knew ketchup was so toxic!

What are your thoughts on the subject? Which foods have you found to be high in sugar? We’d like to hear from you!
